TIP OF THE DAY NO. 70 – THINGS TO REMEMBER

TIP NO. 70 – THINGS TO REMEMBER

1. If you wear make-up don’t try on clothes the day you don’t – without make-up the result will not be dependable.

2. When you are tired, it’s better not to wear black. Instead, put a lighter shade next to your face.

3. Prints or designs of any kind need simple, quiet accessories in solid tones.

4. Since long sleeves lead the eyes to your hands, pay attention to your manicure.

5. When wearing white – any garment in white – must be of good quality. A white garment in a cheap fabric will make you look that way.

TIP OF THE DAY NO.41 – TAKE INVENTORY BEFORE YOU SHOP

This means taking everything out of your closets, out of your drawers, and off the shelves – including shoes, handbags, underwear, and all other accessories. There will be quite a few items you’re in doubt about. So ask yourself:

– Does this still suit me?

– Do I still like it?

– Do I still need it?

– Does it still fit my lifestyle

– Try on any garment you are in doubt about.

Once you have decided what to keep, look at what is left in your wardrobe and think what you would like to add to it, or what you need, keeping in mind your lifestyle and professional needs.

I know this is a tall order but don’t feel discouraged if you can’t do it all at once – depending on the size of your wardrobe, you might have to do it in stages.

TIP OF THE DAY NO.23 – LOOKING GOOD – DRESSING WELL

It is true that many patterns tend to make one look older, especially floral prints. (Maybe this
has to do with memories of our grandmother’s aprons?) Other prints tend to overpower the
wearer. While shopping with one of my clients, she tried on a floral dress she liked. When
she looked in the mirror, she kept admiring the dress, never looking up at her face. I asked her
if she thought this dress did something for her. Now looking at herself, she had to admit that
the loud colours and the big flowers overpowered her
.If you fall in love with a print that is on the loud side, wear a solid colour next to your face, or
leave the print for the skirt. Here is a general rule that will guide you: if the pattern is small,
the colours can be bright and multiple, but as the print gets larger, the colours should become
lighter

.Note: Prints or designs of any kind require simple, quiet accessories in solid colours.

FASHION TIDBIT

Rachel Zoe, the celebrity stylist, who is going to have her own clothing line, and maybe you  know her from her reality show “The Rachel Zoe Project” (I have never watched it, but now I will)  had this to say about dressing and looking your best – in her own words – and I quote:

– Don’t be scared to be overdressed. What’s the worst case scenario? You’re the best-dressed in the room.

– I love to go by more is more. I’m not a minimalist. But if you’re questioning yourself and think you may have on too much, you probably do. So take something off.

– Don’t be afraid to accessorize. An outfit is nothing without accessories.

It is short and sweet, but it says it all – ‘don’t be afraid to look your best’ – and trust your intuition when it comes to how you want to look, and what makes you feel good.
