TIP OF THE DAY NO. 70 – THINGS TO REMEMBER

TIP NO. 70 – THINGS TO REMEMBER

1. If you wear make-up don’t try on clothes the day you don’t – without make-up the result will not be dependable.

2. When you are tired, it’s better not to wear black. Instead, put a lighter shade next to your face.

3. Prints or designs of any kind need simple, quiet accessories in solid tones.

4. Since long sleeves lead the eyes to your hands, pay attention to your manicure.

5. When wearing white – any garment in white – must be of good quality. A white garment in a cheap fabric will make you look that way.

TIP OF THE DAY NO.61 – EYE MAKEUP AND GLASSES

TIP NO. 61 – EYE MAKEUP AND GLASSES

Are you wearing glasses? I do – and I found out that my glasses can either enhance my eyes or not, depending on how well I have applied my eye makeup.

After applying your eye makeup don’t just get up, put on your glasses and go. Instead before you leave your mirror, put your glasses on and check if everything is in the right place – no mascara on your eyelids; not too much eyeshadow; not a too heavy eye liner  –remember glasses magnify your eyes and show up any little fault.

But the good news about wearing glasses is that it makes your eyes look bigger and if everything is in the right place, glasses add interest and often make a woman look sexy.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 52 – THE IMPORTANCE OF EYEBROWS

TIP N0. 52 – THE IMPORTANCE OF EYEBROWS

Many makeup artists believe that it is the major feature in defining your face. And if you think of  famous stars, like Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor   Joan Crawford,  Brooke Shields, you see how true this is.

What do your eyebrows do for your face?

You can change their shape by tweezing, waxing, and threading. You can change their color. You can even have hair implants to make them thicker. But whatever you do have a professional advise you  – most Nail Salons do it – and then there are salons which specialize in shaping eyebrows, and you can find them on-line.

It is worth a try – you will be surprised by the (positive) change.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 51 – A TAN IN A TUBE

TIP NO. 51 –  A TAN IN A TUBE

Beach time is a few months away – so if you are sick of looking at your winter white skin, there is help. No, I am not suggesting a visit to  a Tanning Salon – they are more expensive than my solution, and there has been some controversy about how safe a tanning bed is for the skin.

So what other alternative is there without the sunSelf Tanning Lotions! I have tried  a few different brands and found “Jergens natural Glow” to be the  best. It comes in Fair to Medium and Medium to Tan. It is also a moisturizer, and after applying if for 3 days your skin has a golden glow – to keep your tan, use it once or twice a week.

I know I sound like a commercial for Jergens, but honestly, after trying many products I find it to be the best – it is easy to use, and I like the colour it gives my skin. And best of all it only cost $12.99 and can be found in most Drug Stores.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 39 – LOOKING GOOD TAKES TIME

TIP NO. 39 – LOOKING GOOD TAKES TIME

The other day I was watching a model being interviewed on TV. She was asked, “What do you do to always look so glamorous?” Her answer was, “I don’t always look glamorous. It takes a lot of work and time, not to speak of the airbrushing that is done on my photos.  I would like young girls to realize that models don’t look in reality as we appear in the magazines –  knowing this would help them feel less inadequate because they don’t look like the girl in Vogue.”

Most of us don’t look like the girl in Vogue, but if we take a little time for ourselves, we will look better. For example:

– if you ever wonder should I wash your hair today?’ – yes, you should  – you will look better for it

putting on some make-up (even if you are at home) will make you feel better

having a manicure will give you prettier hands

a face mask once a week will give you better skin

an extra hour of sleep or just relaxing a moment here and there will do more for your complexion than the most expensive cream

an hour of exercise once or twice a week – or just going for a walk – will make you feel more alive

If your excuse is ‘I don’t have the time’ remember in order to take care of everything and everybody in your life, you have to include yourself – take  care of yourself, spend some time with yourself and on yourself – you will feel and look better!

POST OF THE DAY no. 24 – MIRROR MIRROR ON THE……………….

TIP NO. 24 MIRROR MIRROR  ON THE WALL……..   silver mirrior

WHO’S THE FAIREST ONE OF ALL?

If you want to be the fairest one of all your make-up must be well applied. To be absolute sure, take a hand mirror and go to a window where you can see your face by daylight. You might put your make-up on in the bathroom, or somewhere where the light is not so good, making  it difficult to get the whole picture.

So tomorrow morning when you have applied your make-up, take a mirror and try it. You might be surprised that your eye shadow is a little to heavy, or that your powder is too much, showing up any wrinkles, or that your lipstick is too red.

It won’t take long to adjust it, but you will then be sure that you are the fairest one of all. Have a good day!

TIP OF THE DAY – NO. 20 LOOKING GOOD AND DRESSING WELL

But by 11 am., even though we have done some work, we don’t feel so good. It is our subconscious telling us that we don’t  look as good as we did when we went out to work, and it is telling us so by making us feel uncomfortable. And when passing a mirror it gets even worse, looking at ourselves we might wonder -Who is that? And then with a deep sigh, our not so coiffed hair, or too large top is dismissed with – well nobody sees me anyway. You should stop and ask,” What do you mean? Am I nobody?”

Oh, I am not just preaching, I have been there and when one day, not by 11 am but by 2 pm I felt so bad that I thought I was sick. I took a shower, washed my hair, and put on a nice pair of pants with a fresh white blouse — I did not feel sick anymore, I felt well and alive. Since then I get dressed every morning, and even put on some make-up.

I don’t mean you have to wear your black suit around the house, but your jeans can be replaced by the slacks you have hanging in your closet. And you have other tops besides t-shirts and sweats. Of, course if you can’t miss the comfort of your sweats; buy nice ones, maybe a top with a zip in front, or a sweat or warm –up suit that matches.

My grandmother, who I admired for her down to earth wisdom, was always dressed and combed early in the morning. She used to say, “You never know who will be knocking at the door, and you don’t want to be embarrassed about how you look.”  You don’t either!

See you tomorrow

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 2,400 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 4 years to get that many views.

DRESS TO IMPRESS – read part of my book everyday.

Hello Everyone

Maybe you don’t know that I have written a book  about how to –  –

I now would like to share this book  with you by publishing  part of it every day on my blog. I hope you will find it interesting and keep reading – every day

                               INTRODUCTION

HOW TO LOOK AND FEEL YOUR BEST  EVERY DAY

How good-looking you are, and how confident you feel about yourself is not a matter of how fashionable you are, or of how much money you have, or even of how beautiful you are, it is a matter of how well you can present and package yourself.

Yes, packaging is what sells most products and when it comes to looking good, you are the product and your clothes are the wrapping.

The belief that there are no ugly women, just women who do not know how to look attractive, is truer today than ever before. Today there are not limits on what a woman can wear. There are not do’s and dont’s, and not even the fashion designers impose any particular look on today’s woman. Our options are varied and plentiful and if a woman cannot find her particular look among them, she can only blame herself that she is not looking her best.

Without over-emphasising the importance of appearance, don’t forget that the biggest asset you in life is yourself and you must use it to its best advantage. The French philosopher Voltaire once said: ‘DRESS CHANGES THE MANNER.’ That was true in the eighteens century and it is still true today. Think about how good you feel  when wearing your favourite outfit – or how you want to fade into the wall when you are wearing something you don’t like, and know you don’t look good in.

Choosing the right clothes can make you look and feel your best everyday. However, it does not happen by itself. It takes a little time and more importantly a commitment to yourself

Having made the decision to find out HOW TO LOOK AND FEEL YOUR BEST EVERY DAY you might ask, ‘Now wat?’

The first step is to take inventory of yourself. This is not an exercise in scrutinising your defects. The point is to look at your body objectively and make a list of your assets; my legs are good; I should probably wear more skirts. My hair should not be pulled back, or maybe it would look more feminine a little longer. What about make-up to bring out my eyes?

To see what you like about yourself, you need – besides an open mind – a full length mirror. Stand in front of it and try to imagine that the person  is someone else. This way your good points become more apparent. Being more objective will make you more generous. You will give yourself credit for what you have instead of being over-critical.

Start with your hair. Does it frame your face the right way? Is it too short to do so? Or if your hair is long. would a shorter style make it appear thicker and more sensual? Would more frequent brushing add the life that is missing? When looking at your face, it might occur to you that make-up could improve it. If you are not used do wearing any, or if you don’t want to look made-up, relax: having good make-up that enhances your face does not mean a heavy, painted look. It can be very subtle and still create the effect you want.

That is all for today – please come back tomorrow and read the rest of the INTRODUCTION and find out how you can TELL THE TRUTH about your body.

Until then – STAY WELL AND LOOK YOUR BEST.

THE LAST 6 TIPS OF HOW TO INTERPRETE A FASHION MAGAZINE

Hello Everyone

Let us finish today what we started last week, here are the other 6 tips of how you can adapt what you see in fashion magazines to yourself and your wardrobe.

7. COMPARE THE EDITORIAL PAGES WITH THE ADS.

Some of you might not be familiar with the difference. So let me explain first. The editorial pages are the part – mostly towards the back of the magazine – showing clothes which have been selected by the fashion editor of that publication and are photographed for the magazine. The purpose is to show the latest trends, colours, and silhouettes.

The ads, mainly in the front part of the magazine, are paid for by manufacturers and designers who make the clothes, or the stores who sell them. These are usually less spectacular than what is shown in the editorial  pages, but more wearable and often more affordable. So my advice her is to study the editorial pages for what is new and then compare them to the ads which show the same trend in a more moderate, less intimidating version.

8. PAY ATTENTION TO THE FABRIC GARMENTS ARE MADE OF.

When we think of a new look, we first think of styles and colours. But we seldom pay enough attention to the fabric, though it is always mentioned. Don’t just read over the description, let it register. Knowing that gold lame is back or that rain coats are made from a silk poplin, or that a wool and polyester mix holds pleats better, will make you surer of what you are looking for when you go shopping. And it will also help you to buy better quality clothes, and you won’t end up with a fabric that does not wear well.

9. TAKE NOTE OF NEW HAIRSTYLES.

The hairstyles you see on the models are, like the clothes, exaggerated versions of new trends. But to convey a message it is often necessary to start with an extreme. So if you see faces framed by halos of curls, it is telling you that curls are the look. You are not expected, however, to wear a style like this in your daily life, translating this to you, it means your hair should be worn curly in some way or other – short curls,  shoulder length curls,  or just the ends curled – really anyway that suits you best. So if you wish to look up-to-date don’t regard the new hairstyles as something that once again does not apply to you. IT DOES!

10. STUDY THE MAKE-UP.

Tempted by pictures of models with beautifully made-up faces, we buy lipstick, foundation, eyeshadow –  just anything that we believe brings us closer to the faces we see  in ads and on display posters. But having all this cosmetic, few of us ever achieve to use it properly. But it is not as difficult as you might think.

Choose a picture of a model who has the same colourings as you. This is important. Study the picture for a while. Yes, you can see where the eyeshadow starts and stops – just look again. After you have studied the picture well, put it next to your make-up mirror and once you have applied your foundation, start to copy what you see. Since your colourings are close to those of the model, choose similar or the same colors for eyeshadow, blush and lipstick. When you start,  don’t get discouraged.  It won’t be perfect the first time around, but with patience and practice it soon will.

11. SEE WHAT ACCESSORIES ARE WORN AND HOW.

A complaint I often hear is: “ I love accessories, but I never know what to do with them.”  This frustration is further increased by hearing and reading about women who can change their look with just a little scarf or belt. If you use scarves, it should never be an inexpensive one – buy the most expensive one you can afford, because a good quality scarf can  make an inexpensive dress look good.

If you don’t know how to wear your scarves look at the way the model wears it and do the same. But then there are not only scarves. There are necessary accessories –  like shoes, bags, and hose – and optional ones like belts, jewelry, and hats. Among the optional ones there is always one that is more in fashion than others. Look how jewelry has made a come back! So again look at how it is worn. Maybe you can’t wear a big collar-like necklace, but you can wear 4 or more bracelets, just like the girl in the magazine.

Accessories can make a big difference. Therefore, to avoid being without, follow what you see in your favorite Fashion Magazine.

12. FOLLOW THE ADVICE – DO IT.

Once you have analyzed a fashion magazine as I have suggested, the most important point is still to come. YOU MUST DO IT. Knowing about how to change your hair, how to wear a hat and what is the latest colour for lips, is not enough. You must put into action what you have seen. Don’t say:”Yes, I have read about the new hair thickener in Bazaar, but I didn’t try it yet.”

I can assure you that applying to yourself what you see and read in fashion magazines –  if for beauty, health, clothes, or make-up – will give you a different image and lots of self-confidence

          Until the next time

STAY  WELL  AND  LOOK  YOUR BEST
