Dress to Impress – Find Out How……. – First Installment – Looking Your Best

Good News for every woman who wants to knows how to dress well and find her style  – today I am starting to post my book Dress to Impress on my blog. Chapter by chapter, and page by page.

It will be posted in instalments, giving you an opportunity to take in the advice and apply it while we go along. There will be a new post every Sunday.

And here is the first one:

How to Look and Feel Your Best Every Day

How good looking you are, and how confident you feel about yourself is not a matter of how fashionable you are, or of how much money you have, or even of how beautiful you are, it is a matter of how well you can present and package yourself.

Yes, packaging is what sells most products and when it comes to looking good, you are the product and your clothes are the wrapping.

The belief that there are no ugly women, just women who do not know how to look attractive, is truer today than ever before. Today there are no limits on what a woman can wear. There are no do’s and don’ts, and not even the fashion designers impose any particular look on today’s woman. Our options are varied and plentiful and if a woman cannot find her particular look among them, she can only blame herself.

Without over-emphasizing the importance of appearance, don’t forget that the biggest asset you have in life is yourself and you must use it to its best advantage. The French philosopher Voltaire once said: ‘Dress changes the manner’. That was true in the eighteenth century and it is still true today. Think about how good you feel when wearing your favorite outfit—or how you want to fade into the wall when you are wearing something you don’t like.

Choosing the right clothes can make you look and feel your best everyday. However, it does not happen by itself. It takes a little time and more importantly, a commitment to yourself.

Having made the decision to find out HOW TO LOOK AND FEEL YOUR BEST EVERY DAY you might ask, ‘Now what?’

The first step is to take inventory of yourself. This is not an exercise in scrutinizing your defects. The point is to look at your body objectively and make a list of your assets: my legs are good; I could probably wear my skirts a bit shorter. Maybe my hair shouldn’t be pulled back, or maybe it would look more feminine a little longer. What about makeup to bring out my eyes?

How to take inventory of yourself we will talk about next Sunday – see you then

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 60 – THE SPRING OF BLACK AND WHITE

TIP NO. 60 – THE SPRING OF BLACK AND WHITE

Looking at these pictures will convince you that there is no getting away from black andnd white this spring. Even if you don’t wear a way out style, you can a find a way to follow this trend – and maybe just pulling out the black and white items you have in your wardrobe and putting them together will do the trick.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 55 – THE ONE YEAR RULE

TIP NO 55 – THE ONE YEAR RULE

I am sure you have heard this one before, but sometimes we forget. The rule is that if you have not worn a garment for one year, it can be for one of the following reasons:

– you don’t like it anymore

– it does not fit anymore

– it does not suit your lifestyle anymore

– it is not in fashion anymore

Only one of these reasons is enough to take it out of your wardrobe.

When it comes to evening and party dressed the rule chances to two years – because the reason you might not have worn it in the last year is that you had no occasion, so you can give it another chance.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 40 – GIVE IT AWAY

TIP NO. 40 – GIVE IT AWAY

Giving my clothes away I enjoy as much as buying them. When recently I gave away 2 silk dresses, a pair of leather pants and two tops, I felt so relieved to see them go – because seeing them hang in my closet I felt guilty for not wearing them.

I know many women cannot easily let go of what has been part of their wardrobe for many, many years, but a friend of mine has a slogan, that might help, “If you don’t wear it, let somebody else enjoy it.” Thinking that you are doing a good deed will make it easier to separate yourself from that lovely Burberry jacket you bought on sale three years ago, and never wore because it is a little snug – I know – who can resist a Burberry blazer for only $99?

Remember the minute you have doubts about an item, and you have not worn it in the last year, it is time to let it go!

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 39 – LOOKING GOOD TAKES TIME

TIP NO. 39 – LOOKING GOOD TAKES TIME

The other day I was watching a model being interviewed on TV. She was asked, “What do you do to always look so glamorous?” Her answer was, “I don’t always look glamorous. It takes a lot of work and time, not to speak of the airbrushing that is done on my photos.  I would like young girls to realize that models don’t look in reality as we appear in the magazines –  knowing this would help them feel less inadequate because they don’t look like the girl in Vogue.”

Most of us don’t look like the girl in Vogue, but if we take a little time for ourselves, we will look better. For example:

– if you ever wonder should I wash your hair today?’ – yes, you should  – you will look better for it

putting on some make-up (even if you are at home) will make you feel better

having a manicure will give you prettier hands

a face mask once a week will give you better skin

an extra hour of sleep or just relaxing a moment here and there will do more for your complexion than the most expensive cream

an hour of exercise once or twice a week – or just going for a walk – will make you feel more alive

If your excuse is ‘I don’t have the time’ remember in order to take care of everything and everybody in your life, you have to include yourself – take  care of yourself, spend some time with yourself and on yourself – you will feel and look better!

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 34 – BE CONSISTENT

TIP NO 34. – BE CONSISTENT

Whatever we decide to do to improve ourselves – our looks, our health, our body —- will only work if done regularly. You’re not obliged to do something everyday, but work out a certain pattern such as a face masque once a week – exercise twice a week, or having four nights of enough sleep.

It’s like saving money: A little regularly will become a lot eventually!

No, I won’t see you tomorrow because I am going away, and believe it or not, to a place that  has no internet connection – yes they still do exist – but I will see you again regularly as of February 27, 2013. Until then, stay well.

POST OF THE DAY no. 24 – MIRROR MIRROR ON THE……………….

TIP NO. 24 MIRROR MIRROR  ON THE WALL……..   silver mirrior

WHO’S THE FAIREST ONE OF ALL?

If you want to be the fairest one of all your make-up must be well applied. To be absolute sure, take a hand mirror and go to a window where you can see your face by daylight. You might put your make-up on in the bathroom, or somewhere where the light is not so good, making  it difficult to get the whole picture.

So tomorrow morning when you have applied your make-up, take a mirror and try it. You might be surprised that your eye shadow is a little to heavy, or that your powder is too much, showing up any wrinkles, or that your lipstick is too red.

It won’t take long to adjust it, but you will then be sure that you are the fairest one of all. Have a good day!

See you tomorrow
