TODAY I WANT TO THANK MY LONG-TIME FOLLOWERS FOR READING MY BLOGS, AND IN THE HOPE THAT YOU WILL JOIN ME ON MY NEW BLOG – WHICH IS THE RESULT OF MY LATEST BOOK – GETTING OVER GROWING OLDER – PLEASE GO FOR THE LATEST UP-DATES TO
I have just come back from my trip to Switzerland, and of course shopping is part of what we do when we leave home. But it is not the same as shopping at home. First I noticed that my attitude to money is quite different – different in the way I look at prices. After a few days when I have gotten used to the currency, and don’t calculate anymore how much something is in dollars, I pay 100 Swiss Francs for a pair of shoes without thinking that it is expensive – where here at home I would think twice about paying that much.
Well, it is part of our holiday mood – we think that we deserve these treats when we are on vacation, and we do! But be careful not to get carried away by your surroundings, by spending the extra money for something you can not use once you are back home.
Don’t fall in love with an adorable summer dress only appropriate for the beach – but not useful when you are back in New York. Or have you ever come home with a huge straw hat? Now only a reminder of that wonderful stay in the Bahamas! By all means go shopping, have fun, but buy something that will remind you of your vacation while wearing it back home.
Oh, yes the shoes I bought are something I will wear all summer – they are beige snake-skin, with a medium size heel, and very comfortable. But I had a moment of hesitation. There was also a pair of sexy, red ones with very high heels, and my holiday mood was more for sexy and daring —- but then I took my own advice and bought what will be useful this spring and summer.
We have all made the mistake of buying shoes that are too small for comfort. If you have a pair like this in your closet, wear them when it rains. (An exception would be light-colored – beige or pastel – because they will stain) Wearing them in the rain will stretch them enough to make them comfortable. But you must keep them on your feet until they are completely dry or they will shrink again.
If you worry about spoiling the shoes, look at it this way: The way they are now, you can’t wear them at all, or not for very long. So either the experiment works and you have a pair of shoes you can wear, or if it doesn’t work you give them away, which you would have had to do eventually anyway – so it is worth a try – ‘go walking in the rain.’
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY and don’t forget to wear those high heels today
Marilyn Monroe once said: “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.” Not that Marilyn needed the right shoes, even without shoes she could have conquered the world!
But it is true that the most effective way to look feminine and sexy is to wear high-heeled shoes. (Alas, if only someone could combine comfort with spike heels). From my survey, which was published in my book What Turns MenOn – 80% said that they preferred and like women who wear high heels. Here is one comment: “High heels make legs appear longer and curvier. They also add height and give a woman’s silhouette a slimmer look. No man ever misses a pair of legs with high-heeled shoes. The style of the shoes doesn’t matter, it’s the heel that counts.
Another said: “I am extremely turned off by women who wear only flat shoes, because I feel that a high-heeled shoe is the trademark of a vibrant, sexy woman.”
Do you have any high-heeled shoes in your closet? If you can’t wear spike heels, maybe you could try a pair like these, with a medium heel?
TIP NO. 18 – Buy The Same Item In Different Colors.
When you find a blouse that suits and fits you well, or a pair of pants that fit like a dream, think about buying more than one, in different colors. Nobody will notice that your white shirt and your fuchsia shirt are the same. This applies also to t-shirts, shoes, and underwear – but make sure they really suit you and make you feel good.
If you are on a budget, like most of us, your clothes have to last several seasons. The best investment, therefore, are conservative styles, simple styles. They will not look oudated next year or even the year after.
Simple, conservative styles are more versatile. You can change them into a different look with accessories. You will not get tired of a plain dress as quickly as you will of get tired of the print on this dress.
It is a beautiful dress, but you can only afford if your budget is unlimited.
If you want to follow the new fashion trends, do it with accessories – a belt, a hat, shoes, or jewelry in the latest style.
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 2,400 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 4 years to get that many views.
