1. If you wear make-up don’t try on clothes the day you don’t – without make-up the result will not be dependable.

2. When you are tired, it’s better not to wear black. Instead, put a lighter shade next to your face.

3. Prints or designs of any kind need simple, quiet accessories in solid tones.

4. Since long sleeves lead the eyes to your hands, pay attention to your manicure.

5. When wearing white – any garment in white – must be of good quality. A white garment in a cheap fabric will make you look that way.

TIP NO. 69 – LOOK AT COLOURS IN THE RIGHT LIGHT

When shopping and trying on clothes to find out if a certain colour is good for you, try to look at it in daylight. Artificial light changes colours. Go to the door of the boutique or to a window in a department store. If this isn’t possible, check it at home. If you find the colour is unbecoming, take the trouble to return it. Don’t compromise when it comes to your looks.

By the way the contrary is true when buying an evening dress or a garment worn mainly in artificial light: try it on in that light. Many colours that look well in daylight appear drab or ugly in the evening.

TIP NO. 51 –  A TAN IN A TUBE

Beach time is a few months away – so if you are sick of looking at your winter white skin, there is help. No, I am not suggesting a visit to  a Tanning Salon – they are more expensive than my solution, and there has been some controversy about how safe a tanning bed is for the skin.

So what other alternative is there without the sunSelf Tanning Lotions! I have tried  a few different brands and found “Jergens natural Glow” to be the  best. It comes in Fair to Medium and Medium to Tan. It is also a moisturizer, and after applying if for 3 days your skin has a golden glow – to keep your tan, use it once or twice a week.

I know I sound like a commercial for Jergens, but honestly, after trying many products I find it to be the best – it is easy to use, and I like the colour it gives my skin. And best of all it only cost $12.99 and can be found in most Drug Stores.

A softer version of black is Navy Blue. For those women who find black a little harsh, navy blue can be the answer. It is as respectable, and as business like as black but gentler to your complexion. During the 1940’s navy blue was worn more often than black – if you go to any vintage store and look at the dresses, and even pocket books, from that period, you will see that they are often navy blue.

No, it is not harder to coordinate, like black it can be worn with anything –  it will go with any colour, except its cousin black. Most women have never considered navy blue, but since this spring it is one of the fashion colours, it is maybe time to try it.

TIP NO. 44 –  NEVER SLEEP WITH YOUR MAKE-UP ON

When at 89 my mother died, she still had beautiful, clear skin, and was often asked what her secret was. “Never going to bed with my make-up on” was her reply.

It is also said that your gens have something to do with good skin, but this being so or not, taking good care of your skin will keep it young and healthy looking. – and it is therefore, most important to keep it clean – to remove the pollution of the day – to give it rest,  a chance to breathe.

I know from experience that there are evenings I am so tired that I would rather just fall into bed, but making the effort not to, my face rewards me the next morning with looking healthy and fresh  —  your skin too will look better if you take your make-up off every night!
