TIP OF THE DAY NO. 66 – NOT TO BE WITHOUT!

TIP NO. 66 – NOT TO BE WITHOUT!

A WHITE BLOUSE – is an absolute must. It is one of the most adaptable garments you can own. It is suitable for any time of day and coordinates well with all colours and styles, and  is the natural partner of suits. It will always be the answer to any emergency or unexpected invitation, and makes any woman look younger.

To avoid being without a white blouse (because it is being washed or dry cleaned), it is a good idea to have two – or more. Since you will wear this is a garment more than others, it will not be a wasteful duplication.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 59 – TRYING ON CLOTHES

TIP NO. 59 – TRYING ON CLOTHES

When it is cold and you are all bundled up with sweaters, coats, and scarves, etc., or in the summer when you feel hot and sweaty, you probably don’t feel like getting undressed to try on a new blouse – or anything else.

So you  might buy it without trying it on, hoping it will fit (and suit you) or, what I have seen many women do, they try it on over what they are wearing – HELP – there is no garment – except a jacket or coat – that will look well when pulled over one you are wearing. “It will give me an idea if I like it”‘ a lady told me recently, while she was pulling one turtleneck over another – how can you like it when the shoulder seams are not in the right place and the sleeves are pulling in all directions?

If you don’t want to get undressed – don’t buy it or take the risk that you have to exchange it – but putting on a blouse over another one won’t give it a fair chance.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 53 – THE ONE IN ONE OUT RULE

TIP NO. 52 – THE ONE IN ONE OUT RULE

In order to prevent your wardrobe from bulging, from having too many clothes, from not knowing that you have in your closet, you have to apply the One In One OUT Rule  meaning that when you buy a new item, you have to eliminate one.

But it is not tick for tack – if you have bought a new top you don’t have to get rid of  a top, instead you can take out the skirt you never wear – once you get used to doing this, it will be easy to manage your wardrobe, and you will have a better idea of what you have.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 49 – CAN WOMEN LOOK BETTER?

TIP NO. 49 – CAN WOMEN LOOK BETTER?

Never before have we had as many clothes, and options – what to wear–  than today. So why do we seldom see a well dressed, well put together woman? (by the way this is also true for men?)

Doing some research and people watching, I came up with the following 3 reasons:

1. FIT – most garments don’t fit well – too long, too tight, too loose, shoulders not in the right place, sleeves too long, too baggy

2. CONDITION OF CLOTHES – wrinkled, out of shape, snagged, (I know the wrinkled look is in, but nothing replaces an ironed, crisp looking shirt).

3. COORDINATION – Brown pants, a red and black plaid shirt and a blue jacket don’t look good together – the I saw wearing it really did not care – she must have just thrown these items on, without even looking in the mirror.

Nobody makes all three mistakes, but even one is enough to prevent a woman from looking well dressed. But it is not difficult to correct these missteps – paying a little attention, taking a little more time to check things out – or like we say today be more in the NOW when it comes to looking your best.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 45 – WEAR MORE COLOURS

TIP NO. 45 – WEAR MORE COLOURS

Boston B-W suit

It is easy, it takes very little thought and one is never wrong wearing black with black, which is the reason why so many women are always are in black. But with spring coming it is time to add a touch of colour, and this year the fashion trends help – one of the major looks is black and white.

You can follow that trend with adding a white blouse or top, adding a white scarf, and even white handbags can make the difference – of course other colors can also brighten up a black outfit – don’t look like a widow this spring – join the fun of wearing bright, happy colours – you might even try something in orange?Banana Orange

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 36 – THE ART OF BUYING IN THRIFT SHOPS

TIP NO. 36 – THE ART OF BUYING IN THRIFT SHOPS

Shopping in thrift shops has become a sport – spurred on by the ambition to find the bargain of a lifetime. But to find that bargain you must know how to look, and what you are looking for – prepare yourself – you will need:

1. An idea of what is missing in your wardrobe – this is to avoid getting side tracked by things that don’t fit your lifestyle.

2. Know what is in fashion – even if you don’t follow the latest trends, knowing that full skirts are in will prevent you from buying an unfashionable tight one.

3. Plenty of time – thrift shops are packed with merchandise –  displayed either in heaps on tables or hanging on rags tightly packed, making it difficult to go through it quickly. You must have enough time to see what is there and to examine carefully what you buy.

4. Check it out – when you find an item you like check out its condition –  look under the arms and around the collar. There should be no sign of wear – also check for snags, pulled threads, spots, rips, and piling when it is knitwear.

5. Try it on – today most thrift shops have fitting rooms – use them – don’t come home with something that does not fit or suit you – remember there is no exchange.

6. Consider an alteration – if it is only a matter of shortening the length and/or the sleeves, and it fits otherwise, it will still be worse buying.

Once you have found a thrift shop you like, some are more pleasant than others, drop in whenever you have some time and check out what has come in – their merchandise changes daily and after all you don’t want to miss the bargain of a lifetime.

TIP OF THE DAY – NO. 18 LOOKING GOOD AND DRESSING WELL

TIP NO. 18 – Buy The Same Item In Different Colors.

When you find a blouse that suits and fits you well, or a pair of pants that fit like a dream, think about buying more than one, in different colors. Nobody will notice that your white shirt and your fuchsia shirt are the same. This applies also to t-shirts, shoes, and underwear – but make sure they really suit you and make you feel good.
