TIP OF THE DAY NO. 67 – CASUAL OR DRESSY?

TIP NO, 67 – CASUAL OR DRESSY?

In the days of our grandmothers, there were definite guidelines about what type of dress to wear for an occasion. And if you read stories set at the turn of the century, you may run across day dresses (or even morning dresses). carriage dresses, riding dresses, dresses for receiving callers, and so on.

In our days the distinctions have been narrowed to: casual, formal, and everything goes. But the reality is not so simple. Often when one asks for the dress code, the answer is , “Oh. you know just dress casual.” Since this word is interpreted in so many ways, you may see party-goers in everything from jeans and sweatshirt to a trouser suit with a satin blouse.

CASUAL means an attire that is comfortable, not contrived,  a look that does not say ‘dressed up.’ But it does not mean sloppy, nonchalant, or unattractive. You can be casual in a nice pair of pants, a silk blouse, and a leather jacket, or in a cotton dress with sandals and a straw hat.

If you tell me ‘but I want to be comfortable’ – please don’t use this as an excuse not to make an effort and look your best.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 63 – GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES

TIP NO. 63 – GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGE

If you feel that you were short-changed because you are small. rejoice. Small women keep their youthful appearance longer than tall women.

Just think of your friends and compare. Doesn’t Jane at 5 feet 2 inches look younger than Doris who is 5 feet 9 inches? So instead of wanting to be taller, just count your blessings!

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 62 – WHEN IS A GARMENT TOO TIGHT?

TIP NO. 62 – WHEN IS A GARMENT TOO TIGHT?

You might say ‘but that is obvious’ – no it isn’t! I am presently associated with the Bottomless Closet, an organization that helps women to have the right image and proper clothing when they go for an interview.

While working with the women I am surprised to learn how many of them think a garment fits when it really doesn’t. Even when they can’t button a jacket – they say it fits. Don’t let that happen to you – here are a few tips how to avoid these mistakes.

1. You must be able to button a jacket  – even if, as I often hear  ‘I never button my jacket’  you should be able to

2. When buttoned  – jackets or shirts should no GAPE – and if it doesn’t when you button it, make sure it doesn’t when you move.

3. When pants show horizontal pleats in the crotch area, it indicates that they are to snug.

4. If you have any extra weight around the middle, on the top or around the hips, a dress should be loose enough not to point them out – or it will look like this !scan0004- 2.jpg too tight dress-2

TIP OF THE DAY NO.61 – EYE MAKEUP AND GLASSES

TIP NO. 61 – EYE MAKEUP AND GLASSES

Are you wearing glasses? I do – and I found out that my glasses can either enhance my eyes or not, depending on how well I have applied my eye makeup.

After applying your eye makeup don’t just get up, put on your glasses and go. Instead before you leave your mirror, put your glasses on and check if everything is in the right place – no mascara on your eyelids; not too much eyeshadow; not a too heavy eye liner  –remember glasses magnify your eyes and show up any little fault.

But the good news about wearing glasses is that it makes your eyes look bigger and if everything is in the right place, glasses add interest and often make a woman look sexy.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 58 – DON’T BE AN IMPULSE BUYER!

TIP NO. 58 – DON’T BE AN IMPULSE BUYER!

You probably don’t think that you are, but if you want to find out go through  your closet and see how many items still have the Hang Tag and Price ticket on them.

These are items you bought on impulse or they wouldn’t have the price ticket still on, and were never worn. You must have liked them at the time – thinking they would be great to wear on a hot day, or to go out, or for the weekend – or was it maybe a SALE  sign that made you buy them?

Believe me I am not making it up – I have met many women who say, “Oh, you should see  how many things in my closet still have the price ticket on.”  It is a pity that your budget was spent for something that you are not wearing.

So if you find out that you are an impulse buyer, think twice before you go to the cash register!

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 57 – WHO DO YOU DRESS FOR?

TIP NO.57 – WHO DO YOU DRESS FOR?

The answer is for YOURSELF

What do you mean?” you might ask. It is not something we think about, but when we have a date, we dress to look nice for the man we meet. When we go to work we dress appropriately for work, but otherwise – what happens?

Please don’t say ‘nobody sees me anyway.’ Are you nobody? And to convince you a little more, remember how you feel when you look good! I am sure that you walk with more confidence, that your spirit is higher, and you feel happier about life.

You can feel that way everyday if you make yourself a priority and make the extra effort to look nice and be well dressed all the time – it will change your life and make your days brighter.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 52 – THE IMPORTANCE OF EYEBROWS

TIP N0. 52 – THE IMPORTANCE OF EYEBROWS

Many makeup artists believe that it is the major feature in defining your face. And if you think of  famous stars, like Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor   Joan Crawford,  Brooke Shields, you see how true this is.

What do your eyebrows do for your face?

You can change their shape by tweezing, waxing, and threading. You can change their color. You can even have hair implants to make them thicker. But whatever you do have a professional advise you  – most Nail Salons do it – and then there are salons which specialize in shaping eyebrows, and you can find them on-line.

It is worth a try – you will be surprised by the (positive) change.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 51 – A TAN IN A TUBE

TIP NO. 51 –  A TAN IN A TUBE

Beach time is a few months away – so if you are sick of looking at your winter white skin, there is help. No, I am not suggesting a visit to  a Tanning Salon – they are more expensive than my solution, and there has been some controversy about how safe a tanning bed is for the skin.

So what other alternative is there without the sunSelf Tanning Lotions! I have tried  a few different brands and found “Jergens natural Glow” to be the  best. It comes in Fair to Medium and Medium to Tan. It is also a moisturizer, and after applying if for 3 days your skin has a golden glow – to keep your tan, use it once or twice a week.

I know I sound like a commercial for Jergens, but honestly, after trying many products I find it to be the best – it is easy to use, and I like the colour it gives my skin. And best of all it only cost $12.99 and can be found in most Drug Stores.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 49 – CAN WOMEN LOOK BETTER?

TIP NO. 49 – CAN WOMEN LOOK BETTER?

Never before have we had as many clothes, and options – what to wear–  than today. So why do we seldom see a well dressed, well put together woman? (by the way this is also true for men?)

Doing some research and people watching, I came up with the following 3 reasons:

1. FIT – most garments don’t fit well – too long, too tight, too loose, shoulders not in the right place, sleeves too long, too baggy

2. CONDITION OF CLOTHES – wrinkled, out of shape, snagged, (I know the wrinkled look is in, but nothing replaces an ironed, crisp looking shirt).

3. COORDINATION – Brown pants, a red and black plaid shirt and a blue jacket don’t look good together – the I saw wearing it really did not care – she must have just thrown these items on, without even looking in the mirror.

Nobody makes all three mistakes, but even one is enough to prevent a woman from looking well dressed. But it is not difficult to correct these missteps – paying a little attention, taking a little more time to check things out – or like we say today be more in the NOW when it comes to looking your best.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 48 – HELP FOR THIN HAIR

TIP NO. 48 – HELP FOR THIN HAIR

A PERM– I know this might sound very old fashion. It might make you think of your mother, your grandmother, or back to 1950 when most women had their hair permed. It is not an everyday thing anymore, and when  you  have thick hair  – why would you need it?

But then not everybody has thick hair including me – so I am  speaking from experience – and yes, there are literally hundreds of products out there which  supposedly make your hair thicker, and I have tried many fo them, but nothing has worked as well as a permanent every six months. It doubles the volume of my hair; making it fluffy, and curly if I want or I blow dry it.  It has body then and does not collapse into thin strands of hair.

Think about it and discuss it with your hairdresser – a body wave, as it called today  – can be the end of thin looking hair.
