TIP OF THE DAY NO. 71 – YOUR FIGURE

TIP NO 71 –YOUR FIGURE

For many years now we have been brainwashed into thinking that skinny is beautiful just because we see and admire flat-chested, narrow-hipped models in fashion magazines. It is indeed nice to be slim, but skinny is not beautiful or attractive.

Gentlemen do NOT prefer scarecrows. A very thin woman may look well in clothes, but without them she doesn’t offer much to hold on to – is that maybe why some men prefer heavier women?

What is more important than being slim is to be well proportioned. If you wear a size 10 on the top and size 12 or 14 around the hips, exercise is the only thing that will correct this. Dieting alone will make you lose weight all over, where exercise will take off the bulk where you don’t need it.

And when getting older being thin is no advantage – because when the skin starts to sag and the bones begin to show a woman will certainly look older than she is. In moderation a few extra pounds will make you look younger and more feminine.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 70 – THINGS TO REMEMBER

TIP NO. 70 – THINGS TO REMEMBER

1. If you wear make-up don’t try on clothes the day you don’t – without make-up the result will not be dependable.

2. When you are tired, it’s better not to wear black. Instead, put a lighter shade next to your face.

3. Prints or designs of any kind need simple, quiet accessories in solid tones.

4. Since long sleeves lead the eyes to your hands, pay attention to your manicure.

5. When wearing white – any garment in white – must be of good quality. A white garment in a cheap fabric will make you look that way.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 66 – NOT TO BE WITHOUT!

TIP NO. 66 – NOT TO BE WITHOUT!

A WHITE BLOUSE – is an absolute must. It is one of the most adaptable garments you can own. It is suitable for any time of day and coordinates well with all colours and styles, and  is the natural partner of suits. It will always be the answer to any emergency or unexpected invitation, and makes any woman look younger.

To avoid being without a white blouse (because it is being washed or dry cleaned), it is a good idea to have two – or more. Since you will wear this is a garment more than others, it will not be a wasteful duplication.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 60 – THE SPRING OF BLACK AND WHITE

TIP NO. 60 – THE SPRING OF BLACK AND WHITE

Looking at these pictures will convince you that there is no getting away from black andnd white this spring. Even if you don’t wear a way out style, you can a find a way to follow this trend – and maybe just pulling out the black and white items you have in your wardrobe and putting them together will do the trick.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 59 – TRYING ON CLOTHES

TIP NO. 59 – TRYING ON CLOTHES

When it is cold and you are all bundled up with sweaters, coats, and scarves, etc., or in the summer when you feel hot and sweaty, you probably don’t feel like getting undressed to try on a new blouse – or anything else.

So you  might buy it without trying it on, hoping it will fit (and suit you) or, what I have seen many women do, they try it on over what they are wearing – HELP – there is no garment – except a jacket or coat – that will look well when pulled over one you are wearing. “It will give me an idea if I like it”‘ a lady told me recently, while she was pulling one turtleneck over another – how can you like it when the shoulder seams are not in the right place and the sleeves are pulling in all directions?

If you don’t want to get undressed – don’t buy it or take the risk that you have to exchange it – but putting on a blouse over another one won’t give it a fair chance.

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 58 – DON’T BE AN IMPULSE BUYER!

TIP NO. 58 – DON’T BE AN IMPULSE BUYER!

You probably don’t think that you are, but if you want to find out go through  your closet and see how many items still have the Hang Tag and Price ticket on them.

These are items you bought on impulse or they wouldn’t have the price ticket still on, and were never worn. You must have liked them at the time – thinking they would be great to wear on a hot day, or to go out, or for the weekend – or was it maybe a SALE  sign that made you buy them?

Believe me I am not making it up – I have met many women who say, “Oh, you should see  how many things in my closet still have the price ticket on.”  It is a pity that your budget was spent for something that you are not wearing.

So if you find out that you are an impulse buyer, think twice before you go to the cash register!

TIP OF THE DAY NO. 29 – CAN SHOES HELP YOU CATCH A MAN?

TIP NO. 29 CAN SHOES HELP YOU CATCH A MAN?

Marilyn

Marilyn Monroe once said: “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.” Not that Marilyn needed the right shoes, even without shoes she could have conquered the world!

But it is true that the most effective way to look feminine and sexy is to wear high-heeled shoes. (Alas, if only someone could combine comfort with spike heels). From my survey, which was published in my book What Turns Men On – 80% said that they preferred and like women who wear high heels. Here is one comment: “High heels make legs appear longer and curvier. They also add height and give a woman’s silhouette a slimmer look. No man ever misses a pair of legs with high-heeled shoes. The style of the shoes doesn’t matter, it’s the heel that counts.

Another said: “I am extremely turned off by women who wear only flat shoes, because I feel that a high-heeled shoe is the trademark of a vibrant, sexy woman.”

Do you have any high-heeled shoes in your closet? If you can’t wear spike heels, maybe you could try a pair like these, with a medium heel?

COLORS FOR SPRING 2012

Hello Everyone

When walking down Fifth Avenue the other day, I passed Bergdorf Goodman, one of New York’s upscale department stores. Their window display is always beautiful, and I never miss to take a look. But today nobody needed an invitation to look, the display was so bright and colorful that it gave the impression to leap out at you.

There were blouses, dresses, tops, pants, very short and long skirts in electric and iridescent shades of yellow, lemon, apple green, lavender, reds, blues – simply anything very, very bright.

Just when I though ‘Oh black is out’ I saw a black jacket over an electric blue dress. What does that mean for us? We can keep all our black clothing and just spruce it up with one of the new exciting colors, and be up-to-date.

THE LAST 6 TIPS OF HOW TO INTERPRETE A FASHION MAGAZINE

Hello Everyone

Let us finish today what we started last week, here are the other 6 tips of how you can adapt what you see in fashion magazines to yourself and your wardrobe.

7. COMPARE THE EDITORIAL PAGES WITH THE ADS.

Some of you might not be familiar with the difference. So let me explain first. The editorial pages are the part – mostly towards the back of the magazine – showing clothes which have been selected by the fashion editor of that publication and are photographed for the magazine. The purpose is to show the latest trends, colours, and silhouettes.

The ads, mainly in the front part of the magazine, are paid for by manufacturers and designers who make the clothes, or the stores who sell them. These are usually less spectacular than what is shown in the editorial  pages, but more wearable and often more affordable. So my advice her is to study the editorial pages for what is new and then compare them to the ads which show the same trend in a more moderate, less intimidating version.

8. PAY ATTENTION TO THE FABRIC GARMENTS ARE MADE OF.

When we think of a new look, we first think of styles and colours. But we seldom pay enough attention to the fabric, though it is always mentioned. Don’t just read over the description, let it register. Knowing that gold lame is back or that rain coats are made from a silk poplin, or that a wool and polyester mix holds pleats better, will make you surer of what you are looking for when you go shopping. And it will also help you to buy better quality clothes, and you won’t end up with a fabric that does not wear well.

9. TAKE NOTE OF NEW HAIRSTYLES.

The hairstyles you see on the models are, like the clothes, exaggerated versions of new trends. But to convey a message it is often necessary to start with an extreme. So if you see faces framed by halos of curls, it is telling you that curls are the look. You are not expected, however, to wear a style like this in your daily life, translating this to you, it means your hair should be worn curly in some way or other – short curls,  shoulder length curls,  or just the ends curled – really anyway that suits you best. So if you wish to look up-to-date don’t regard the new hairstyles as something that once again does not apply to you. IT DOES!

10. STUDY THE MAKE-UP.

Tempted by pictures of models with beautifully made-up faces, we buy lipstick, foundation, eyeshadow –  just anything that we believe brings us closer to the faces we see  in ads and on display posters. But having all this cosmetic, few of us ever achieve to use it properly. But it is not as difficult as you might think.

Choose a picture of a model who has the same colourings as you. This is important. Study the picture for a while. Yes, you can see where the eyeshadow starts and stops – just look again. After you have studied the picture well, put it next to your make-up mirror and once you have applied your foundation, start to copy what you see. Since your colourings are close to those of the model, choose similar or the same colors for eyeshadow, blush and lipstick. When you start,  don’t get discouraged.  It won’t be perfect the first time around, but with patience and practice it soon will.

11. SEE WHAT ACCESSORIES ARE WORN AND HOW.

A complaint I often hear is: “ I love accessories, but I never know what to do with them.”  This frustration is further increased by hearing and reading about women who can change their look with just a little scarf or belt. If you use scarves, it should never be an inexpensive one – buy the most expensive one you can afford, because a good quality scarf can  make an inexpensive dress look good.

If you don’t know how to wear your scarves look at the way the model wears it and do the same. But then there are not only scarves. There are necessary accessories –  like shoes, bags, and hose – and optional ones like belts, jewelry, and hats. Among the optional ones there is always one that is more in fashion than others. Look how jewelry has made a come back! So again look at how it is worn. Maybe you can’t wear a big collar-like necklace, but you can wear 4 or more bracelets, just like the girl in the magazine.

Accessories can make a big difference. Therefore, to avoid being without, follow what you see in your favorite Fashion Magazine.

12. FOLLOW THE ADVICE – DO IT.

Once you have analyzed a fashion magazine as I have suggested, the most important point is still to come. YOU MUST DO IT. Knowing about how to change your hair, how to wear a hat and what is the latest colour for lips, is not enough. You must put into action what you have seen. Don’t say:”Yes, I have read about the new hair thickener in Bazaar, but I didn’t try it yet.”

I can assure you that applying to yourself what you see and read in fashion magazines –  if for beauty, health, clothes, or make-up – will give you a different image and lots of self-confidence
